Minolta Dimage 7 Digital Camera
Minolta digital camera
Minolta's DiMAGE 7 camera offers an ultra-high resolution 5.24-megapixel CCD sensor that delivers excellent images for prints as large as 13 by 19 inches.

This is a consumer oriented high-performance all-glass camera with a 7x optical plus 2x digital zoom lens with autofocus and connects with Macs and PCs via USB port Add to this a host of creative controls stacked into a unit with the size and feel of an SLR, and you have a camera with the type of functionality typically found only in professional models.

Three controls provide access to the camera's primary adjustable features. Digital subject-program selection allows you to set aperture and shutter speed for superior results in five popular formats: portrait, sports action, sunsets, night portraits, or text. A function dial allows adjustment between four modes of pixel resolution, five modes of data compression, four modes of exposure control, five modes of drive options, seven modes of white balance, and five levels of ISO. The digital-effects controller allows image manipulation by compensating for exposure, contrast, and color saturation before the image is saved. As insurance, Minolta provides a fourth control that instantly restores the camera's automatic settings. Changing most settings is a two-handed operation: one hand selects the feature you're adjusting, while spinning a second dial actually changes the setting.

To preview and review images, the DiMAGE 7 features a viewfinder that pivots for comfortable close-ups or tripod shooting. An eye-sensing switch (triggered when you put your eye up to the camera) automatically turns off the TFT LCD viewscreen to conserve battery power.

Fuji FinePix 4800
fuji digital camera
The FinePix 4800 Fuji digital camera is nearly identical to the Fuji 4700 and comes with a handy USB docking cradle that recharges the included lithium-ion battery and remains connected to your computer, similar to a USB card reader. The cradle allows you to easily transfer your images and even tilts for use as a PC cam.

According to Fuji, the 2.4-megapixel Super CCD sensor inside the FinePix 4800 is able to "produce a maximum image file size of 4.3 megapixels." This means it captures high quality shots at up to 2,400 x 1,800 resolution. With the 3x optical zoom capability (along with 4.4x digital zoom), it also provides a wide range of shooting options, from telephoto to wide angle, with coverage equivalent to a 36-108mm range in a 35mm camera.

Start-up takes only two seconds, and the pause between single-frame shots can be as brief as a second. In continuous shooting mode, you can shoot every 0.2 seconds. A motion-picture recording mode lets you record and play back 320 x 240 pixel video at 10 frames per second in JPEG format for up to 160 seconds with sound. The FinePix 4800 allows you to switch between auto and manual focus. It has a black and white mode, voice-recording modes for picture annotations or voice memos, a 2-inch LCD color monitor, supports SmartMedia cards, and offers 3 to 1/2,000 shutter speeds.

The Fuji FinePix 4800 comes with a 16 MB SmartMedia card, hand strap, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, USB HotSync cradle, USB cable, audio-video cable, and CD-ROM software.
